Skrillex. - the mane illex

Hi everyone. This is sonny Moore, aka. Skrillex.

He is discriminated against by many for being in the forefront of a mainstream genre of music. Generally it is hipsters and other underground music lovers who tend to hate skrillex, but they don't know that he started out just as underground.

At the ripe old age of 16, sonny was lead singer for the hardcore band from first to last, for whom he recorded vocals on two albums and concurrently toured with.

Sonny only started performing as skrillex in 2008, and was literally an underground artist, performing in small clubs and venues, often beneath the ground, in l.a. He had to endure humble beginnings and carve out his new style in order to define himself and separate himself from his old band.

He was taken under the wing of electronic dance music legend deadmau5 and signed to his label mau5trap, and skrillex and deadmau5 worked together improving each others styles and toured the most epic tour of all tours.

Skrillex's popularity blossomed and with the rise of dubstep into mainstream music, his fan base surpassed deadmau5 leading him to start his own label, OWSLA, on which he signs young up and coming artists much like he once was.

Skrillex became so popular in fact that he won three Grammys in 2011. Best dance recording for the title track "scary monsters and nice sprites", best dance/electronica album (big category people) for "scary monsters and nice sprites", and best remix for "cinema"

Not only was it amazing that he won all these awards, he also beat out industry magnates like d. Guetta, Wolfgang gartner, and his mentor and lifelong friend, deadmau5.

Next time you criticize skrillex (I'm looking at you blondie and clone man) at least I hope you can do it knowing he's a human being, an accomplished artist, and most of all, more famous than you.

  1. Oh my dear heavens above. He was in From First to Last?! I saw them in 8th grade - they came with Fall Out Boy, All-American Rejects, and Hawthorne Heights. I hated them, and my taste in music back then was semi-okay at best. You're making this worse.
I understand that he's a human being. He can do what he wants to, but I don't have to like it. So there.
P.S. Fame is so mainstream. ;)
